About the Institute:
This website is hosted by the Centre for Global Research at RMIT University in Melbourne as part of the work of the Timor-Leste Research Program. The aim of the website is to maintain a record of research outcomes from projects and collaborative efforts undertaken with organisations, communities and individuals since 2003, as well as advance ideas relating to social science and humanities based research in Timor-Leste.
Vision:
The broad focus of the Timor-Leste Research Program has been on the process of nation-formation, particularly on the period since 1999. While we maintain an interest in Portuguese colonialism and in the Indonesian occupation, this is only to the extent that they help us understand the contemporary character of Timor-Leste. While concentrating on the post-colonial period, our research moves across the disciplines of political science, sociology, and anthropology, as we research social change and different patterns of social integration
Mission:
RMIT’s Timor-Leste Research Program is committed to both intellectual and ethical objectives.
