About the Institute:
Centre for Animal Disease Research and Diagnosis (CADRAD) was established at Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar on 10th March, 1986 with a view to provide health care and diagnosis of animal diseases in the country. Since then this Centre has been efficiently carrying-out laboratory examination of materials referred from all over the country. This Centre has multidisciplinary approach in diagnosis of animal diseases with specialists of Virology, Bacteriology, Parasitology, Pathology, Toxicology and Epidemiology. This Centre has the mandate for disease diagnosis and development/standardization of diagnostic methods/ kits/ reagents. CADRAD was recognized as Central Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (CDDL) by the Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Agriculture (Govt. of India) since 2001-02 with specific mandate, technical programme and financial support.
Vision:
To act as National referral laboratory for disease diagnosis work
Mission:
1. To collect, process, store, and retrieve animal health and disease data and establishment of a data bank for immediate use in planning disease control and forecasting programme.
2. To formulate and establish a system of monitoring and surveillance of noticeable and reportable diseases for fulfilling National and International obligations
3. To standardize the diagnostic tests and know how, and to prepare the standard diagnostic reagents for use at the Centre and other collaborating National and International establishments, including government and private diagnostic laboratories
4. To develop and improve upon, presently available disease diagnosis competency
5. To teach and train personnel from the States/ Institutes/ Veterinary Colleges in diagnostic methodology, epidemiology and preventive medicine and avian diseases.
