About the Institute:
The Centre for Research in Medical Entomology (CRME) was established on 1st May 1985 as one of the permanent institutes of Indian Council of Medical Research (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India). The Centre has five field stations at Virdhachalam, Tirukoilur, Coimbatore, Gorakhpur and Chennai. There are four divisions at headquarters, viz.,
•(1) Ecology & Research Modelling
•(2) Epidemiology & disease vector control
•(3) Molecular Biology and
•(4) Mosquito colony, Extension and Training
These divisions along with the field stations are engaged in research on various aspects of Japanese encephalitis (JE), dengue, filariasis, malaria, Chikungunya etc. The Centre is equipped with adequate infrastructure to undertake research related to molecular entomology, molecular taxonomy, vector ecology, vector biology, vector control, epidemiology and serology. The Scientific Advisory Committee comprising eminent scientists from all over the country guide the scientific activities of the Centre.
