Rangaraya Medical College was started as a private medical college in 1958. The development of the college continued as the student intake in Under-graduate and Post-graduate courses increased. In recent times, as the ratio of girl students increased the capacity of the Ladies hostel has been enhanced. The bed strength of the hospital was also enhanced to fulfill MCI guidelines on student:bed ratio and also due to increased patient turnover, due to reasons like enhanced facilities to diagnose and treat patients, increased population and migration of people to urban areas.

Presentlythe college rates as one of the best in the country with full fledged faculty, buildings and equipment to conduct Under-graduate (200 seats), and Post-graduate (111 seats) courses in addition to Para medical (123 seats)courses in all sub specialties and 6 Super-specialty students. The college and the hospital are able to sustain and develop with times through dedicated efforts of not only of it’s staff and administrators but through constant support from not only the government funds, but also responsible people’s leaders (MPs and MLAs) who donated funds generously from their constituency funds, NGOs, and local and national Corporate bodies who always came forward with a helping hand to serve the society for it’s common good and in appreciation of the service being done by the college and the hospital in the fields of education and healthcare.

As enunciated in the core principles the college aims to provide quality medical education to fulfil the needs of the society as per its socio-economic structure.
The college believes that its alumni should be not only efficient doctors who are proficient in the art and science of allopathic medicine but also good human beings with high moral and ethical standards.
