Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is a public university for scientific research and higher education. IISc is widely regarded as Indias finest institution in science, and has been ranked at number 11 and 18 worldwide (and ranked 3rd and 6th in Asia). The institute has made significant contributions to life sciences, advanced computing, space, and nuclear technologies. The Institute was the first to introduce masters programmes in engineering. It has also started integrated Ph.D. programmes in Biological, Chemical, Physical and Mathematical Sciences for science graduates.
