About the Institute:
Nilratan Sircar Medical College is one of the four government medical colleges in Calcutta. This college is one of the oldest medical institutions of our country and has cut a special niche in the history of medical education and research. This Institution has many things to boast of, in 1921 a great invent took place here in this Alma Mater, Sir U.N. Brahmachari discovered Urea Stibamine- a medicine which put the last nail in the coffin of devilish disease called Killer-kala-a-zar, which remains a landmark in the history of medical discoveries till date.
The institution, run by the Government of West Bengal, is affiliated to the West Bengal University of Health Sciences. It has both undergraduate and post graduate studies in different pre-clinical, para-clinical and clinical departments and is recognised under the Medical Council of India, New Delhi. At present there are 250 MB;BS seats per admission year and 110 postgraduate degree/diploma seats.
