From a modest beginning in 1984, National Institute of Medical statistics, Delhi (NIMS) has grown into a fully integrated Institute for providing technical expertise on research methodology, program evaluation, mathematical modeling, data analysis etc. At the outset, please allow me to express my gratitude and take great pride and satisfaction to be a part of the only Institute in India that works in the area of Medical Statistic. Its spectrum of work includes application of statistics in the area of bio-medical and bio-behavioral research. It provides statistical back-up to clinical trials, epidemiological studies and population research (Cancer epidemiology, nutrition, infectious diseases, morbidity and mortality, reproductive and child health, population dynamics etc). It has expertise available in the area of study design and statistical computing and works in close tandem with Government of India for surveillance of communicable and non-communicable diseases. NIMS is affiliated as an approved research centre for Ph.D in Medical Statistics by the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, Delhi.

NIMS was started with a vision to promote and undertake research on statistical methods in the field of health, medicine, epidemiology and other allied areas and provide statistical services and assistance to centre, state and local bodies in handling problems related to dynamics of population, health and medicine and also to conduct training in applied biostatistics for statisticians, medical and paramedical personnel etc
