About the Institute:
With the recommendation of WHO, the Regional Station of IVRI at Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) was established in 1970 as a joint venture between IVRI (ICAR) and All India Institute of Hygiene & Public Health (GOI) to train specialists in veterinary public health, leading to the degree of MVPH of University of Calcutta. The scientists of the Regional Station are conducting basic and applied research on improvement of animal resource of Eastern and North-Eastern Region in collaboration with various ICAR institutes, SAUs/ SVUs, KVKs, State Department of Animal Husbandry, ICMR and other reputed organizations including NGOs etc. The Regional Station is contributing to address the Regional problem-oriented research on zoonotic diseases. The Regional Station imparts post-graduate education under the aegis of IVRI Deemed University along with collaboration with various other Universities in this regard. The specialized training courses in the frontline areas of science are organized for the field veterinary officers in collaboration with Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department of State Govts.
Vision:
To act as a window for dissemination of technology at the grass-root level for the improvement of socio-economic status of resource poor farmers of the Region
Mission:
•To carry out basic and applied research on animal diseases with special emphasis on zoonoses in Eastern and North-Eastern Region.
•To undertake systematic epidemiological investigation of animal diseases and provide referral diagnostic facilities for animal diseases.
•To impart post graduate education and specialized training courses for human resource development
•To facilitate transfer of technologies for all round development of animal resources in the region.
