Dhaka Shishu (Children) Hospital has been the pioneer in providing child health care in Bangladesh and is the largest children hospital in the country. Currently, it is a 640 bed hospital which offers a full range of clinical services and is supported by a team of highly qualified paediatric consultants and a group of skilful technical staff who always strive to provide complete medical services for children nationwide. A few months after the liberation of Bangladesh, in March 1972, Dhaka Shishu (Children) hospital, the only children hospital in the country was established. On 17th January 2012 Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the Paediatric Cardiac Center with Cardiac Surgery, Cath-Lab, & Cardiac ICU facilities which is the first of its kind for children in the country.

The key vision of the hospital is to expand its quality services so that the health benefit reaches the vast majority of deprived and needy child population of the country and to provide comprehensive and state-of-the-art clinical services for children in Bangladesh.

The hospital aims develop further and provide quality medical services to children countrywide and strives to gain national as well as international cooperation in achieving this endeavor. The hospitals future plans include expansion of hospital bed development of Interventional Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery and bone marrow transplantation/ DNA analysis.

It is affiliated with Dhaka University, BSMMU and BCPS. The academic wing – Bangladesh Institute of Child Health conducts Post Graduate courses in Paediatics
