At the time of its establishment, Unpad consists of 4 faculties: Faculty of Law and Knowledge Society, Faculty of Economics (both originated from the Freedom Foundation at the University of Bandung), the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (Guidance and Counseling, an incarnation of PTPG in Bandung), and the Faculty of Medicine. Leadership in Unpad also experienced growth officially, structurally, and organizationally. Unpad currently has 16 faculties and if it is needed, could close and open a new faculty due to stakeholders demand.

The vision of the university is to be a university of excellence in world class education by the year 2026.

On January 16, 2014, Padjadjaran obtained a certificate of accreditation higher education institution 'Accredited with A rating' from the National Accreditation Board of Higher Education.
